R-PET

Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate

Awesome Video Gallery

R PET stands for recycled polyethylene terephthalate. For the most part, rPET looks and feels exactly the same as traditional plastic (PET). rPET is created by recycling previously used plastics, including plastic bottles. Once collected, it is sorted, cleaned, and transformed into rPET Flakes. These rPET Flakes are not food grade anymore and can be used to make Spinning Fibre or PSF (Polyester Staple Fibre), Partially Oriented Yarn (POY), and Fibre Fill (FF). The washed flakes typically have an internal viscosity (IV) in the range of 0.6-0.75. These washed flakes go through a solid state polymerization, which increases the molecular weight of the polymer and hence the IV of the resulting material. Once the Polymerization is done now rPET flakes can be used to make non-foodgrade bottles, sheets, masterbatch monofilament, and straps etc.
